A Low Hum

DIY Touring the World Vol. 2

How to get involved, or register for a copy.

BACKGROUND

In 2011 I published a book of my experiences and tips when booking unheard of bands on tours around the World (well, Europe, the UK and the USA primarily). I've always believed in the sharing of knowledge and after publishing this was blown away with the reception globally. I've lost count of the number of bands I've had email me who had utilised it or found it beneficial.

I was working on an updated version in 2017 after I'd done a few more tours including through Asia, but I lost a bit of energy and also felt like presenting a singular voice and my own experience wasn't delivering as strong a project as it was capable of. I had the idea of a community edition calling on people happy to share their knowledge from around the world.  I did however make this 6-part web series about touring with my friend Ash Smith.

CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THE SECOND EDITION

The aim is that bands and musicians from around the world, those touring in 2026 or did so in 2025, will make comprehensive notes on their specific experiences in the territory they are touring/toured and share those with the world.

It doesn’t matter the profile of your band or the scale of your tour - all knowledge adds to the pool.

If you/your band is touring in 2026, or have toured a territory or territories recently, please fill in your info here so I can get you information about how to contribute.

I am unable to offer any compensation to contributors, this entire project is a gift to other musicians around the world from those who are able to contribute.

PUBLICATION

I will collect all contributions during 2026 into early 2027. During Infest week of Camp A Low Hum 2027 (the four day period between the two weekends of Camp A Low Hum), bands gathered will have opportunities to offer further tips and advice from their own experience.

All of the notes, essays and contributions will be collated, organised into a website, and then as much as possible, also presented in a book.

The Winter Fund will then pay for the design, formatting and publication costs of a first run of 5000 copies of the book. The Winter Fund will also cover distribution costs to send these to at least roughly 30 cities/hubs around the world for them to sit at record stores/release events to be collected free by local acts.

The book will always be free for any active musician, however, individual book shipping costs, especially to certain areas of the world might be substantial so as the book heads off for publication (mid-2027), I will launch a Kickstarter campaign where non-active musicians or just interested/supportive public can choose to buy a copy, in turn subsidising shipping costs for bands around the world to get copies.

The aim is that bands who wish for a printed copy can choose if they are happy to pay shipping costs themselves, or if they are unable, it is hoped that enough people purchase ‘supporter copies’ that there are always some on offer with shipping included.

HOW TO GET A COPY

If you want to register your interest in a copy of the book (Shipped late 2027), you can “pre-order” now. There are several options you can choose.
